Here is a summary, with spoilers of Tempest of Wrath and Vengeance
Theon hurts; it's been days since he last saw Tessa. While he hates some of her decisions, he still loves her and would do anything for her. Theon’s home is empty yet full, as his brother Axel is still missing, but he now has two new roommates: Eliza and Razik, beings from another realm.
Tessa is living with Lord Jova and his court, feeling it is safer than being with Theon. While there, she has a conversation in a mirror with a man who claims to be her grandfather, Achaz. He gives her more questions than answers, but he has a mission for Tessa: destroy the Arias line (Theon’s). If she does so, she can see her mother.
Luka has also been given a mission: to contact Tessa to see if she knows where Axel is and to continue her training. He is still drawn to Tessa—more so now, as he has started seeing her visions when he sleeps. Tessa realizes that Luka has joined her visions, along with a woman named Lilura.
Axel is still underground, where he was taken by his father’s men. Now that his father is in prison and being kept by Tessa, Axel is vulnerable. As he waits underground, his bloodlust gets stronger, and he dreams of Katya. Eventually, the leader of the Undergrounds, Bree, comes to him. She believes she can capitalize on the mess that Tessa has created. She believes she can lead her army and take over all the courts. Bree offers Axel a spot as her right-hand man and promises to help with the bloodlust. He is sent back to the prison to think about it.
Tessa continues to shield herself, so Luka is forced to go to Lord Jova and make a bargain. Luka promises not to kill Jova, to answer any questions about his lineage, and to give him Theon’s ring. Jova agrees. Tessa is angry about this but keeps getting drawn to Luka. She still refuses to talk to him or train, which infuriates Luka. The one time he does talk to her, it’s to remind her that Axel is gone and that she should help, as he was truly kind to her.
Tessa goes down to torture and interrogate Theon’s father. He gives her a location in the underground to look for Axel. While down there, another prisoner catches her eye—Luka’s father, with whom she accidentally makes a bargain to keep Luka safe. Tessa then goes to Theon. The two fight, and as she is leaving, she tells him what his father said. While they were fighting, Luka arrives to break it up, as do Eliza and Razik. When the two men see each other, they realize they look exactly alike. Later, Theon tells Luka he believes them to be brothers. As they’re talking, they sense something’s wrong—Tessa has been attacked. When they find her, one of her hounds is badly hurt. Luka takes the hound and Tessa to Theon, who keeps a vet on hand. Theon helps, and the night ends with Tessa on good terms with him and agreeing to train with Luka.
The next day, Theon starts preparing to go to the underground. He plans to ask Trystan Blackheart to come with him. But then Kat comes in and says she felt Axel. They go to Razik and Eliza, who confirm that if she felt him, they’re most likely twin flames—meaning she could also easily find him. They give her the twin flame mark and decide she can go with Theon to find Axel.
Tessa decides to go with Brekon to some villas, which turn out to be a brothel. But as she snoops around, she finds that they have a lot of secret information. This leads Tessa to kill two people in charge who were planning to use her. She then goes to Luka to tell him everything. The two end up sharing their first intimate moment.
Theon and his group go to the underground to find Axel. Trystan agrees to go as well, believing siding with Theon and potentially Tessa will get him closer to his one true love, Lilura. After a long day, they don’t find Axel, but they stay the night underground. That night, Kat feels Axel again and tells him where she is. Axel comes for her, needing her blood. He feeds and feeds, and Theon and Trystan have to stop him before he kills Kat. In Kat’s attempt to get him off her, she says she is pregnant. They manage to stabilize the situation and get everyone out of the underground so they can heal. When they return to the surface, they receive a flood of messages—someone has attacked the villas, and many Legacies have died.
As Luka gets ready for bed, Tessa comes to him. She won’t admit what she did, but Luka knows—she went in and killed all those Legacies and freed the fae who were being forced to carry children there. The Lords Tessa lives with are furious and tell her she now owes them a debt. She’s gone from one debt to the next.
When Axel wakes, he and Kat talk about the baby. Eliza and Razik try to give Axel the other part of the twin flame mark, but it doesn’t take. The healer arrives and says Axel must prepare for a transformation—he’s going to lose his magic and become a child of the night. Scared and angry, Axel returns to the underground, knowing it’s the only place he can protect Kat and the baby.
The Lords don’t trust Tessa; they assign her a guard at all times. Her guard is Dex, her longtime friend, but now loyal to the Lords. Luka and Tessa continue training and finally have a conversation about their shared visions. Luka says he’ll ask Theon. When he visits, Theon has no idea why they share visions, but Razik and Eliza might. Razik and Luka officially meet and confirm they are full-blood brothers. Luka then mentions he also spoke to someone in a vision—Saylor—who thought he was Razik.
Eviana is enjoying time away from her bonded, Valter. Though she hears from him constantly—he’s being held captive by Tessa—she’s never had time to herself, and she loves it. Tessa visits her to check on her. Eviana pretends loyalty to Valter, but Tessa sees cracks. Tessa brings up the villa, and a child there connected to Eviana. Eviana denies it (and Valter is proud she does), but Tessa knows. She says the child is safe. Eviana wants vengeance and begins to make plans.
Tessa later visits her hound and overhears Theon talking to his dogs, trying to coax hers. It softens her, stirring feelings she doesn’t want. She goes home, drinks a tea, and passes out for days. During that time, Luka stays with her, worried. Tessa briefly wakes only to pull Luka into a vision with her.
Theon gains access to the catacombs to get more answers about the visions. When Tessa wakes, he asks if she wants to come. She declines, but Luka goes out of curiosity. They slowly begin to uncover Tessa’s parentage, which may explain her visions.
While Tessa is still recovering, Axel visits her. He’s angry, accusing her of not helping him and causing his transformation into a child of the night. Tessa pretends not to care, but deep down she’s devastated—until she realizes that Axel changing means he’s no longer part of the bloodline she’s vowed to destroy. He can be saved. Axel returns to Kat. After a fight, they agree to move to the underworld, where he can protect them and be together.
Eviana continues enjoying her freedom, consumed by thoughts of revenge and how she will kill Valter. Tessa keeps visiting, always bringing food and asking questions—this time about the wives of sources.
It’s the night of the Gala. Lord Jova announces that Tessa is now betrothed to a fae named Liam. Tessa is furious and turns to Theon for comfort, leading to their first intimate moment since her betrayal.
Axel, living underground with Kat, feels different every day as his transformation continues. Eventually, it becomes painful. Then he realizes Kat is in pain too—her twin flame mark is fading because he’ll no longer be a Legacy.
The Lords inform Tessa that the engagement is just the first part of her debt—they will keep adding to it. After the meeting, she is persuaded to leave the barrier, where Cressidea (Theon’s mother) and Mother Cordelia are waiting. They attack her. Tessa fights back and calls her hunters. Auryon, their leader, is furious she was summoned again—but when Auryon is injured, she gives Tessa her bow and her title. The hunters go on a killing spree. Tessa desperately reaches out to Luka and Theon. Luka brings her back to his cave; Theon has to leave to handle the massacre. That night, Luka and Tessa share an intimate evening.
The next morning, Tessa and Luka discuss their relationship—he promised her his full loyalty the night before. They talk about Theon, their plans, and their feelings. But then Tessa accidentally mentions something only Luka’s father would know. Luka realizes that Xan, his father, is in this realm—and that Tessa has spoken to him. Furious, Luka yells at her and tells her to leave. She says she has no home, and he replies that it’s definitely not with him.
Tessa returns to the house she’s been living in. She finally checks her phone and finds messages from Theon—one every day, each with kind words. But before she can reflect, Dex enters, chains her up, and takes her into custody.
Theon is summoned to a council about Tessa. Her hunters killed hundreds of his people, yet he still supports her. Some demand her execution, but it’s vetoed. Things spiral out of control until Trystan reveals he knows where she’s being held. He needs two days to break her out.
Axel, still underground with Kat, is finally found by Bree, who again tries to recruit him. He refuses. In retaliation, she removes all blood from the area, causing Axel to panic. Since Bree now knows where they are, he decides they no longer need to hide. He takes Kat to a priest, and they get married.
Luka, ignoring everyone, decides to break out his father, Xan. With Razik and Eliza’s help, they do it—but in the process, all the prisoners escape, including Valter. Xan confirms he was the one who brought Tessa to this world. Eliza and Razik also reveal they placed a bloodmark on Eviana to mask her bond with Valter. They’re holding her in prison, unsure if they can trust her. Luka visits her to see the mark but still doesn’t know if she’s trustworthy.
Theon and Trystan manage to break out Tessa, but they’re ambushed. The situation mirrors Tessa’s recurring dreams—she panics, realizing Luka isn’t there. As chaos unfolds, both she and Theon are badly injured. Then Luka, Xan, and Razik arrive and stop the fighting. Theon comes up with a plan: he will let the gods destroy their world while Luka and Tessa escape to a new one with Razik and Eliza. They promise to hide them. Tessa panics—she finally wants to be with Theon, and now he’s pushing her away. Luka is still angry with her. But Theon doesn’t give them a choice. The two are taken, and Theon stays behind.
