Dawn of Chaos and Fury by Melissa K. Roehrich

Here is a summary with spoilers for Dawn of Chaos and Fury by Melissa K. Roehrich

It has been two weeks since Luka and Tessa were forced away from Theon. They were supposed to leave the realm so Theon could protect it. But as they have been waiting for the worldwalker Scarlet, they have been hiding, and it has been awkward for Luka and Tessa. Luka has lost all trust in Tessa ever since she kept the secret of his father being alive, and Xan is also hiding out with them. Xan, Cienna, Razik, Eliza, and Tristyn are all hiding out with them as well. Everyone notices that something is off with Tessa, and Luka knows that she is just drawing into herself and withdrawing from everyone else. Meanwhile, Tessa does not want to sleep because the nightmares and weird dreams she has of Luka follow her.

Because Tessa is acting weird, they decide to take her to the pantheon, sneak her into a chamber, and let her expel some power. Though when she gets in there, she starts to see visions of Scarlett and her world, and in the process ends up summoning the goddess Serafina. The goddess gives her a warning that she could start a Genesis with her power and that she should be careful. When Serafina leaves, Tessa’s power explodes and takes the pantheon down, and with it, the mirror that Eliza and Razik needed to go back to their home world.

Theon meanwhile meets with Cressida, his mother. His father, Valtar, has escaped again, but no one knows where he is. Though Cressida does mention that Tessa is most likely still in the realm because the pantheon just got taken down, and Cressida expects that it was Tessa who did it. Theon, wanting answers, decides he needs to go to the underground and talk with his brother Axel. Axel has been spending time down in the underworld with his pregnant wife Katya. They are slowly building relationships with the people there, though they are on constant alert for Bree. Theon and Axel meet up and figure out that the fates are coming for Tessa so they can fix the imbalance in their world. So the two brothers decide that they need to get the shifters on their side and start a revolution. And one of the first steps is to confirm if Tessa is in the realm or not.

Tessa deals with the aftermath of her power outburst, but internally she is struggling with the bond between all three of them being broken. She hates that Luka hates her, and she desperately misses Theon. She is way too much in her mind, and one night she goes outside to process things, and Eliza is there. She stole her bow for her and offers to teach her how to shoot it. The two girls have a bonding moment, but Luka was there the whole time watching; he does not want Tessa to break while he is gone.

Theon decides that to get the information about Tessa, he needs to go to the Lords’ meeting. When there, they get after Theon for letting Tessa go, but eventually the topics change and they want to officially induct Theon as the Arius Lord.

Tessa has not slept in days, and Luka decides that they will share a bed just for the night. When Luka wakes, Tessa is not there, just a note. She cannot take “just for tonight” as an answer because she truly loves him. She says that she is truly sorry for everything she has done to him and is going to go get Theon for him.

Though as Tessa transports herself, she runs into Dex and Mother Cordelia, who take her and trap her once again. They try to convince her to be on their side, but then say that her timing is great, as the Arius Lord is there. But instead of Valtar, she looks into the eyes of Theon and his new wife Felicity. In order to get to be a Lord, Theon had to marry, and now he and Felicity have the Union Mark on them. Though when Theon finally talks, he looks right at Tessa and says he came for what is his.

Tessa feels betrayed; the other man she loves is already married. But that night she sees Theon in her dreams again. She realizes that Theon is actually there, it is not just a dream. Theon tells her to wake up and he can prove that he still loves her. When she does, he reveals his plan. He and Felicity are not really married, the mark is fake, though Felicity does not know that. After proving himself, Tessa and Theon get intimate together, happy to finally be reunited. Rather than return to Felicity’s bed, Theon chooses to stay in Tessa’s, not caring about the consequences. For the next few nights, they create a plan of what to do next, together. The first part of their plan is actually one Theon wants to do, and that is to kill Mother Cordellia for everything that she has done to Tessa. He makes it a quick but miserable death that Tessa is there to watch. They then go to Felicity and get information out of her. It turns out she has been working with Cressida and Valtar from the beginning. Her goal was to seduce Theon and sleep together once; if that was completed, Valtar would take care of the rest and make it look like she was pregnant so they could have an heir. While Felicity tells the story, she touches Theon a couple of times, and Tessa cannot handle it. She breaks and tells Felicity that the mark is fake, then takes her knife and slits Felicity’s throat.

Theon and Tessa then need to run from Dex and get out of there. Dex follows them along with backup warriors. Meanwhile, Luka is still battling with the fact that Tessa left him with just a letter. But Eliza finds out about the attack and tells Luka that they need to go help them. Everyone with Luka prepares for battle, and just in time. Luka finds Dex and goes to fight him, but Dex gets Luka pinned and looks him in the eye to say that he needs Tessa broken for his next part of the plan to work. Then Dex slides a knife into Luka’s chest. Tessa runs to a unmoving Luka, and with the fight still going on, Theon tells Tessa to transport everyone to the underground to Axel. Once there, Tessa pours all of her magic into Luka, not wanting him to be dead. When a healer comes, she pulls Tessa away, and they see that both she and Luka have a new mark, though no one knows what it means or what the cost of Luka’s life was. Only time will tell.

While Luka is healing, Axel comes to talk with Tessa because the last time they saw each other, Tessa promised to kill Axel and all his family, and now she is in his home with his wife and soon to be born child. Tessa apologizes and promises that she will leave if he wants after Luka wakes. Axel takes her apology and says she can stay. Luka finally wakes up two weeks later. He finds Tessa asleep in a chair next to him. Theon later tells him that she spent every night there with him. Theon and Luka have a discussion about Tessa. Though she later arrives just because she wants to see Luka moving, she then promises to leave them be. Theon then tells Luka that she and Theon got married, and it was Tessa’s decision, and she had stipulations as well. But that is all Theon will say; he says that Luka needs to go talk to Tessa himself and figure out if he is in or out. He goes to his room to find Tessa packing her belongings. They have their discussion, where Tessa says that she only married Theon if there was an option to add to their union mark, specifically so Luka could join them. Luka says he will think about it and then tells Tessa she is never allowed to sleep on the couch again, only in a bed with him or Theon. She agrees, and a few days later, when all three are in the same bed, Luka tells them that yes, he wants to be a part of their relationship and they will figure it out as they go.

Daginn, one of the Lords’ heirs, wants to meet with them. He wants a bargain that he will transfer all of his powers to Theon, but afterward he wants security for both him and his girlfriend Sasha. They agree.

Tessa meanwhile still has her agenda of wanting to destroy all the mirror gates so none of the gods can get through. Trystan and Brecken tell her they know where one is and ask her to sneak out away from Theon and Luka that night to go to a different kingdom to do so. Though as soon as they arrive, Brecken gets stabbed and dies. While she is grieving, Theon shows up. He is pissed and scared but tells Tessa he is going to focus on Luka, who is dying. He transports them all back to find Luka pale but rapidly getting better. The healer says it is his new mark. It turns out that Tessa and Luka are now bound by distance, so when she left the kingdom, he started dying, but with her back, he is doing better. His life line is tied to hers now.

That night when Luka is feeling better, they tell Tessa that they will be discussing her sudden departure and plans, but for right now they are going to make her focus on her grieving. They pressure her into expressing how she feels, and she finally breaks down. Then they tell her they will not touch her or let her drink because they want her to figure out how to grieve properly. For weeks they let her be, but then she starts to get stir crazy in the underground, and Theon and Luka take her out to an open field. They let her magic come out and play, and for the first time in a very long time, Tessa finally feels happy. That is until they take her back to Luka’s cave and use their own magic to take her down. They finally want to discuss why she left without telling them. By the end of their session, Tessa tells them everything, and they make her promise that their relationship will be built on trust; they will always tell each other their plans. On top of all of that, their bond is restored and they can feel each other’s emotions and communicate in their minds. Their night together gets interrupted in the morning when Theon gets news about the Lords wanting to meet with him again, and the three come up with a plan.

Luka wants to add to their plan though; he wants to get married with them before the meeting. So after figuring that ordeal out, they are able to finally be married. During the meeting, they reveal to the Lords that they are all married, and the Lords throw a fit. Mostly because Tessa has more power than Theon. So Theon fixes the imbalance and resigns as heir and puts Tessa as the heir. They then go back to their old home to find out what to do next, mostly because they still have Valtar to deal with.

Meanwhile in the underworld, Axel was drugged, and when he wakes up a day later, he finds that Kat is there surrounded by Bree, and she has been in labor for some time now. Once Axel takes care of Bree, he then helps Kat deliver their baby, a healthy baby boy. Everyone else goes to visit them, though Tessa refuses to hold the new baby Maddox, which Theon and Luka feel is odd. They try to talk to Tessa about it, but she asks for some time to think about it before she shares with them. They all then make some plans on how to take down Bree. But in order to do so, Axel and Kat need Tessa, but no one else. Luckily their plan works and they get Bree and hold her captive. Now on to their last problem, Valtar.

Luka and Theon decide to celebrate Tessa’s birthday, though they get interrupted because they are being attacked. Caught unaware, they realize they are going to lose, so they transport out and regroup. Their plan, Tessa decides, is to bring her mother from the mirror realms and have her help. Xan is able to help them do so, and her mother Akira and Tessa are reunited. While they are talking to each other, they get a summons from the Anala Kingdom, which they know will be a trap.

On arrival to the Anala Kingdom, Tessa realizes it is her vision that she has had over and over again. And after a fierce battle where she kills Dax, she realizes that her vision did not come true; all three of them survived. But then they are transported into Achaz’s mirror world, where she fights him and breaks the mirror gate down, trapping him in.

With their war done, they can finally settle down and also say goodbyes. Eliza and Razik are able to go home, Trystan and Xan also decide to go to Xan’s world. Axel and Kat decide to stay in the underworld and keep their connections there. That is until they go to a Lord’s meeting, and the three of them announce they want to be keepers of the realm and help protect it. They give Axel the heir and Lord title. Thus starts a new beginning for their world. There will be no more sources, and all sorts of other changes will be implemented to help their kingdom thrive. Tessa announces she wants to get a new mark on her, one that will make it so she cannot have kids. She does not want a powerful child that they will constantly have to protect, and her husbands agree with her.

Two years later, the three are happy in their marriage, love their little family, and love to see the changes that they have brought to protect their kingdom.
