The Wrath of the Fallen by Amber V Nicole

Here is a summary with spoilers for The Wrath of the Fallen by Amber V Nicole

Samkiel has a problem. He can’t control the Oblivion, and it scares him because he wonders if he is now a threat to everyone he loves. Even waking up next to the woman he loves doesn’t help. Ana Dianna knows Samkiel is struggling with it as well and wants to help. Though Samkiel doesn’t want to focus on the Oblivion, he wants to focus on their other problems, like how they need allies. Samkiel is also still worried about Dianna’s soul and would like to get it back.

Meanwhile, Nismera, the goddess they are all fighting, is upset that Samkiel made it out alive. She asks her advisor, Herni, to start gathering the legions and to begin looking for the witch.

Camilla, the witch, is on the run with Vincent and Shelby, who receives a troubling vision and realizes she made a mistake.

Isaiah is still in prison under Samkiel’s control. Samkiel comes to visit him, but Isaiah refuses to give any information. Samkiel is upset by this and goes to talk to his advisor, Reggie, to see what he thinks should be done. Reggie mentions that they might need to work on Dianna and her appearance to the people, as many still see her as the villain. Samkiel doesn’t really care, even though it makes securing allies more difficult.

During a free moment, Dianna receives a visit from a man named Gathrriel. He says some very cryptic things and claims that this was all part of Dianna’s plan, which is why he is there. He then proceeds to possess Dianna’s body. Reggie is the first person Gathrriel runs into while possessing her body, and he notices immediately and manages to get him out. Being possessed takes a toll on Dianna, so when she is with Samkiel that night, she wants a moment with him where she is in control, which he gladly gives her. After Dianna feels more grounded, they discuss their next move. They need to go to the Otherworld.

Kaden is alive, even after his run-in with Dianna and Samkiel. Now he has conversations with Death. Death likes to take on the appearance of Dianna when he is around Kaden, which Kaden does not like. Death asks Kaden where Samkiel’s place is, and the two start to make some plans.

Cameron is at the castle with Reggie and Dianna. They are training a young healer named Miska. During a party, Cameron takes Miska back to her room so she can go to sleep. Kaden is there waiting for them. He attacks Cameron, breaks his brother Isaiah out of prison, and takes Miska with them. Kaden takes Miska straight to Nismera, and she is told she needs to start making poisons.

Samkiel and Dianna make it to the Otherworld and find a monster that has been terrorizing the town, and they kill it. Dianna wants to celebrate with the townspeople, and they do just that. However, she does want to talk about the Oblivion, which is clearly getting worse for Samkiel. They are interrupted when Cameron comes to them drenched in blood. He explains that Kaden is alive and that he took Miska and Isaiah with him.

Even though Kaden is back with Nismera, Death continues to visit him and observes that he still has feelings for Dianna. This time, Death comes to talk about payment, since Death saved Kaden’s life. The payment Death wants is Nismera’s death. Kaden pushes back, but Death tells him that Nismera is hiding things and that Kaden should be asking certain questions.

Meanwhile, Dianna and Sam are still figuring out a plan with Cameron and Reggie. During one of their planning sessions, Dianna needs some air and runs into Unir, her father-in-law. He claims he only came to speak to Gathrriel, and before she can tell him to leave, Gathrriel returns and takes over Dianna again.

Kaden grabs Isaiah, and the two break into Nismera’s place to gather information. They discover that Death was right, but before they can leave her room, Nismera arrives and catches them. The two brothers run for their lives and grab Miska on the way out, partly as collateral and partly because she is one of the few who can heal them if Nismera injures them. They decide to head toward Whitecliff.

Unir takes Dianna, who is being controlled by Gathrriel, away. Sam soon finds out, confronts his father, and yells at him. This time, Dianna doesn’t have as much control and has to burn herself out of Gathrriel. To recover, Sam takes Dianna to the closest city, Whitecliff. While resting, they talk about their future and even the possibility of having children. The next morning, while heading out to breakfast, Miska walks right in. They grab her and put her somewhere safe, then discover that Kaden and Isaiah are also there, which leads to a huge fight. Mid-fight, Isaiah suddenly turns to ash, followed by Dianna and then Kaden. Sam panics, believing Dianna is dead. Death appears and tells Sam that they need help and must find a medallion. To do that, Sam must work with Isaiah and Kaden. To ensure their cooperation, Death ties Dianna’s life to the two brothers, meaning if any of them die, all of them die. Death brings the other three back, and they learn they are bonded together, beginning a very tentative adventure.

Their first stop is a blacksmith who might help control Sam’s Oblivion, but the smith is gone. Kaden then shares his secret that Sam is Oblivion. As they continue traveling, they discover they can hear each other’s thoughts and communicate mentally, which drives Sam crazy. Sam and Dianna stay close because they believe the brothers are planning something. One day, Dianna gets too close to Kaden, and he grabs her and knocks her out.

When Dianna wakes, she is in the Otherworld, standing before Prince Eryx. She lets Sam into her mind so he knows where she is and can hear the conversation. Eryx takes Dianna deeper to meet King Umemri. When Dianna realizes who she is about to meet, she tells Sam to get there as soon as possible for backup. His arrival nearly starts a war and gets them all kicked out. On their way out, Eryx tells Dianna the medallion is in the witch’s possession. When they regroup, they determine that Camilla has the medallion. Kaden reveals that Camilla is traveling with the general Vincent, which will make retrieving it harder.

Not wanting to waste time, they confront Camilla directly. A massive fight breaks out, and though they think they will win, they lose, allowing Vincent and Camilla to escape with the medallion. Vincent is badly injured, and Camilla makes a deadly bargain with a powerful being to save him, knowing she will regret it later. At the same time, five ships arrive, led by Ennis and Milani, Sam’s former girlfriend. They are there to take Sam. Isaiah spots Imogen, the woman he loves, on one of the ships and goes after her, bringing Kaden with him. They retrieve an unconscious Imogen and see that Ennis has captured Sam and is leaving. Dianna flies toward them but is blasted out of the sky. Kaden catches her, and they regroup with Reggie to form a plan to rescue Sam.

On the ship, Sam wears a collar and is treated like a prisoner. Milani visits him and seduces him, wanting to resume their past relationship. Sam resists but uses the encounter to gather information. Dianna infiltrates his room, and together they devise a plan. The plan fails when Sam meets Milani again and their peace talks turn violent. Milani stabs Sam with a memory dagger, removing all memories of Dianna. When Dianna appears, Sam attacks her, causing her to black out. When she wakes, she sees Sam and Milani together as lovers. Milani believes she has won until she orders Sam to hurt Dianna again. Sam stands and reveals it was all an act, and he never lost his memories or fell under her spell. Together, Sam and Dianna destroy her armada. Sam also rips out Kaden’s tongue because he dislikes how Kaden spoke to Dianna.

Back at the castle, Isaiah demands Imogen’s release from prison, but they refuse, and tensions rise. The group splits temporarily. Isaiah and Kaden search for assassins, while Sam and Dianna enjoy a day at the beach and allow Miska time with her friends. When the brothers return empty-handed, they move on to their next plan: finding Gathrriel to locate a chalice that might give Dianna an advantage.

Guided by Gathrriel, Sam and Dianna travel through tunnels, but only Dianna is deemed worthy to continue. She finds the chalice and drinks from it, seeing memories of Gathrriel, Unir, and Vvive. Sam senses her despair and breaks through the tunnels to reach her. As Dianna tells him what she saw, she realizes the one touching her is not Sam but Nismera. Nismera captures her and takes her to the palace, where Reggie is also being held. They attempt to plan an escape until Unir arrives as well.

Sam prepares his city for the possibility that Nismera may win. During planning, Kaden opens a portal, and Camilla and Vincent step through. They apologize and hand Sam a letter, an invitation to Dianna’s execution.

Dianna and Reggie are beaten frequently. Reggie reveals a revised version of the prophecy. If Sam does not arrive in time and Nismera succeeds, it will mean the end of all worlds and everything beyond them, and it is Sam’s destiny to stop it. Unir reveals that Nismera was created as a weapon and not out of love, something he deeply regrets. Nismera then brings them out publicly, rallying her people and promising they will one day become gods. The rally turns deadly when Nismera kills Reggie in front of Dianna. Dianna briefly contacts Sam, then questions Kaden about the forsaken swords. When he tells her they are made of bone, Dianna begins her plan.

The next day is Dianna’s execution. Sam, Kaden, and Isaiah infiltrate the palace. Sam watches Dianna arrive in a cage and be humiliated as she is dragged through the halls. Because of their bond, Dianna senses Sam nearby. Standing beside Nismera, Dianna pulls a forsaken sword made from her own bones and stabs her. Chaos erupts. Sam rescues Dianna and asks their ally Faye to help her escape and heal, but Nismera recovers quickly and kills Faye. Sam and Dianna fight Nismera but realize they are not ready to defeat her. As they flee, Nismera throws a spear. Dianna pushes Sam aside and takes the fatal blow, dying in front of him.

Kaden protects civilians and believes Death has come, but realizes it is the Oblivion, confirming Dianna’s death. Isaiah crumbles to ash, followed by Kaden.

Cameron tackles Sam as his Oblivion spirals out of control, killing innocents but not Nismera. During the struggle, Nismera escapes. Blayne and Kryella arrive and take Sam to Arcelia to be questioned.

Dianna wakes in her old home, shared with her sister Gabby. Gabby enters and speaks to her, and Dianna realizes she is in the past. As footsteps approach, Dianna moves to protect Gabby, but when the door opens, it is Kaden and Isaiah.
