Here is a summary with spoilers for Gothikana by RuNyx
Corvina Clemm has had a rough life. Her father died when she was young, and her mother has had mental episodes her whole life. On top of that, her unique eyes (purple in color) and the same psychiatric tendencies as her mother have made her an outcast in town. While her psychiatrist and doctors say she is fine, she still often hears a voice in her head, Mo, who leads her in the right direction.
Corvina gets a letter in the mail—an acceptance letter to the mysterious University of Verenmore. As her mom is now in a ward, she decides to start a new life and go to the university. She realizes her life is going to change for good, especially when she meets her new roommate, Jade Prescott. Jade is starting her year over, as the year before she ran away after her roommate jumped off the building. Jade has a suspicion that it has to do with one of the teachers her old roommate was supposedly dating, Mr. Deverell.
Corvina enjoys her new life. Jade and her friends are fun, and she is starting to like her classes. One day though, she goes out into the forest where she runs into Mr. Deverell. She is immediately drawn to him. After weeks of running into each other, the two share an intimate moment, but Mr. Deverell tells her nothing else can happen. They go on with ignoring each other. During that time without him, she starts to experience some odd things: nightmares of a girl trapped in the lake, seeing shadows in the room, her tarot cards telling her to trust the devil, and Mo telling her the same thing. After a particularly bad nightmare, Corvina wants to send a letter to her mom to see what she should do. Mr. Deverell offers to take her into the neighboring town so she can send the letter as soon as possible. While out, he insists that she call him Vad, not Mr. Deverell. When he drops her off back at campus, the two end up having sex in the car, agreeing that it will be the last time.
Even though Vad said no more togetherness, he gets possessive of her and her male friends. One day he even pulls her to the side and asks her not to be with anyone else. This makes her angry though, as he won’t be seen with her due to rules, so he can’t expect her not to find someone else.
One evening, the campus is going crazy. When Corvina finds the crowd, she sees her classmate Troy, who is also Jade’s boyfriend, on top of the building. He looks right at Corvina and jumps off the building. Troy’s brother comes to collect the body, and he also happens to be a private investigator. He asks to meet with Corvina later that night. During their meeting, Vad shows up, and some secrets are revealed: Vad and Ajax went to school together in their younger years, and Vad supposedly killed his grandfather when he came of age, now owning Verenmore. On top of that, Ajax tells Corvina of a witch who told Vad that the girl with purple eyes would change his life. Corvina feels betrayed and needs some answers.
When she and Vad are finally able to communicate, he tells her it is true that he owns the school. He also mentions that he knew of Corvina a long time ago. He heard rumors of a girl with purple eyes, and he went to the psychiatric ward to find her, where he found Corvina’s mother. But then he also laid eyes on her, and knew he wanted her from that moment. He is the reason she got an invite to Verenmore. They also start discussing her strange episodes of seeing shadows and the lady who claims she needs to be found in the lake. Vad tells her that his grandfather did some shady things when he was in charge, and that once a year a student would go missing and their bodies were never found. They decide that maybe they need to search deep in the lake. Vad makes his phone calls to investigators, and they are able to find a number of bodies in the lake.
Corvina believes that is all. She doesn’t have any more episodes, and she continues her school as normal, along with continuing to date Vad on the side and falling more and more in love with him. Everything changes when one night the two are together and she has another episode. The mysterious lady is still out there.
There is an annual school ball, one Vad tells her she needs to be careful of, as each year that is when one of the students goes missing. The two find each other at the masked ball and share some time together before it all goes to hell and two students go missing. Corvina helps with the search, only to run into Ajax, who has some interesting news. They found another body in the lake—Jade Prescott—whose body has easily been in the lake for two years. Corvina is shocked. She wants to know who her roommate is then.
She goes to confront Jade, who confirms that the real Jade died years ago. She took the body back then in an effort to continue her grandmother’s wishes that the witches would continue their legacy at the school. Corvina and Vad are able to take out Jade, but it results in Corvina passing out and doctors saying she still has psychiatric episodes. This leads to six months of her being in a ward, with Vad being there for her every step of the way.
At the end of her time, Corvina feels more healed than ever, but wary of going back to Verenmore. She and Vad start their new life together, one where she can continue to explore her hobbies and Vad can keep teaching at a local university. A couple of years later, the two decide it is time to start a family together, and maybe move back to Verenmore, their true home.
