David Aristarkhov is a high-powered attorney in Boston. He loves his life and is happy with the way things are. On the side, he’s also a psychic prodigy and a medium in a secret society. Everything is going well, until the Devil shows up during a meeting with a client. The Devil is there to collect on a deal made by one of David’s ancestors. The problem? David doesn’t know who made the deal.

Desperate for help, David reaches out to an ex-boyfriend, Rhys. Rhys is also a medium and a rival within the same secret society. He’s now happily married to Moria. When Rhys gets a text and phone call from David, he ignores them, saying he needs more time away—he and David ended things on bad terms.

Regardless, David shows up at Rhys’s house anyway, but he runs into Moria first. She tells David that if he wants to talk, he needs to apologize to her. David does, saying he’s sorry for accusing Moria of cursing Rhys, which was what started—and ended—all of their friendships. After the apology, the three of them talk. Rhys doesn’t want to help David, but Moria agrees to help, though only because she wants David’s money.

It’s also revealed that both David and Rhys are competing for the same position in their secret society. They each have meetings with the current head, Wayne, who will be the one to decide who gets the position when he steps down.

David returns home and begins researching his family history. Suddenly, he blacks out. When he wakes up, he calls Rhys. Rhys and Moria go to David’s house to help. This begins a new dynamic among the three, David wants to get along with Rhys, but Rhys resists. Meanwhile, David and Moria are forced to work together and start getting along, which Rhys doesn’t like. Moria helps David with his blackouts by teaching him spiritual self-defense.

Moria and Rhys go to David’s house to investigate whether David’s father's spirit might be involved. Rhys checks out the house, but Moria works directly with David. She learns that David's father was a terrible man who abused him, and that David's childhood was anything but easy, despite his wealth. David wants to break the cycle of trauma, so they all agree to help Rhys look into his own family tree for any suspicious history.

Though Moria and Rhys continue to enjoy their married life, David starts to insert himself into their relationship more and more, and Moria doesn’t seem to mind. Things continue to go well for the trio. One day, Rhys gets a call from Wayne: he’s been chosen for the new position (not David). Rhys decides to keep it a secret, not wanting to disrupt the fragile new balance they’ve found.

At the Society's annual ball, Rhys and Moria arrive together, but David steals a dance with Moria. Then Wayne steps up to announce the new High Priest. David gets excited—only for Wayne to name Rhys. Devastated, David starts drinking for the first time in a long while. Rhys goes to talk to him, and their conversation turns into a kiss, until Rhys tastes the alcohol and pulls away. He offers to take David home, and Moria comes along.

At David’s home, Moria sees what their relationship used to be like: David drunk and incapable of caring for himself, and Rhys having to manage everything, including calling a therapist. After settling David, Rhys and Moria go home, where Rhys tells her that he and David kissed. Moria asks if he still loves David. She says she kind of likes him, and Rhys admits the same—but emphasizes that he still loves Moria.

Days pass. David hides away in his room, embarrassed by everything. He misses a Society meeting, and Wayne calls him out to dinner. Over the meal, Wayne tells David that more is coming his way, he just needs to be patient.

Meanwhile, Moria feels conflicted. Rhys is buried in his new job, and she hasn’t heard from David, unsure where they all stand. Then David reaches out to her.

Rhys, overwhelmed by work and missing Moria, decides to hire David as his second-in-command, giving him significant power within the Society. David agrees, and the two share another kiss. Rhys goes home and tells Moria, and she says they need to have a serious conversation about the three of them being together, otherwise, things could get messy.

David is back to working normally, but one day in court, he suddenly feels weak and nearly passes out. He calls Rhys, who, along with Moria, takes him to his sister. David tells her everything. She reveals that, according to legend, the curse means death will come for David when he turns 30, which is in one week.

Rhys and Moria bring David to their house to help protect him. They try spells, summonings, and anything else they can think of—but David only gets worse each day. On the morning of his 30th birthday, David sneaks away to his father’s house, where it all began. Rhys and Moria find him there, and Rhys comes up with a plan. He can’t let the man he loves die. He performs a spell to take on the curse himself.

Both Rhys and David survive the ritual, though they're left very weak. Now, Rhys carries the curse, and death will come for him when he turns 30.

Time passes, and it’s finally Rhys’s day of ascension. Rhys and David admit their feelings for each other. The three of them are happy to be working together and are determined to find a way to break Rhys’s new curse—together.
